The Boodles Day 4 - Match summaries, highlights and interviews

Another day of sunshine greeted guests on Friday at The Boodles.  On the day the Wimbledon draw was made, players took to Stoke Park’s world-class grass court to complete the preparations before heading to SW19.

Hubert Hurkacz d. Alexander Shevchenko 64 64

World No.7 Hubert Hurkacz took on talented 23 year-old Alexander Shevchenko in the opening match on Stadium Court. Hurkacz, a former Wimbledon semi-finalist, knows his way around a grass court and gave his young opponent a lesson in attacking play to notch up a straight sets win 64 64. Hurkacz and Shevchenko head to Wimbledon where they will face Moldova’s Radu Albot and France’s Ugo Humbert respectively in the first round.

Alexander Bublik d. Alexei Popyrin 76(5) 63

Making his debut at The Boodles Alexander Bublik took on Aussie Alexei Popyrin in the second match of the day. In an evenly matched first set the pair traded some entertaining tennis before heading into a tie-break. Bublik, known for his showman tactics, dropped in a couple of his trademark under-arm serves to edge the first set 76(5) and continued in good form to wrap up the match 76(5) 63.

Petros Tsitsipas & Anirudh Chandrasekar d. Marcus Willis & Jay Clarke

Petros Tsitsipas and Anirudh Chandrasekar teamed up to score the last victory of the day over Great Britain’s Wimbledon wildcard doubles pairing of Marcus Willis and Jay Clarke. In a fun late evening doubles match the Greek, Indian pairing took the first set 63 before the Brits leveled 36 in the second. In a match tie-break which went the distance Tsitsipas and Chadrasekar emerged with the victory 13-11.
