Andy Murray Makes History
Roger Federer continues to cement his place in the history books and break records, as he lifted his 17th Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon yesterday. It was the 7th Wimbledon title of his illustrious career, as he goes on to reclaim the World Number 1 ranking in the process.
Federer overcame a tough opponent in the final, who also wrote his name into the record books at SW19, Boodles favorite, Andy Murray. The British Number 1, who played 2 matches at Stoke Park in the week prior to The Championships, went on to become the first British man in over 70 years to reach the Men’s Singles Final. His 2 matches at The Boodles (the first against Janko Tipsarevic and the second versus 2011 Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic), were ideal grass court preparation for the big serving Brit, as he raced his way to yesterday’s historic final.
Guests at The Boodles 2012 were treated to arguably the greatest player field to date. 11 of the world’s top 20 players chose The Boodles as their preparation for the upcoming Championships, proving once again that the game’s elite relish the opportunity to entertain the crowds on the manicured lawns of Stoke Park. Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray went up against each other in the feature match of the week on Thursday, whilst some of the sport’s biggest names competed throughout the week. These included 2009 US Open Champion Juan Martin Del Potro, John Isner, winner of the longest match in history and current Queen’s Club Champion Marin Cilic also headlined at The Boodles, giving fans an opportunity to watch excellent tennis close up and in person.
